The Porsche 911 Turbo US Video

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

I found this very nice informational video from Porsche about the 2010 911 Turbo and Boxter Turbo.

I knew that Porsche had done some very clever things to get the 2010 911 to handle with the big old engine hanging out over the rear wheels, but I never realised how they did it until now. The video includes all of the normal stuff like the power ratings and the 0-60 times, but it also goes through the new gearbox the abs and pretty much everything else they have developed for the new cars.

If you are fan of the 2010 911 Turbo or even if you aren’t its well worth 10 minutes of your life.

Rhys Millen To Attempt Pikes Peak Record

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Rhys Millen will attempt to beat the current “Unlimited Class” World Record of 10:01.408 & the 10-minute barrier at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in a custom built Hyundai powered monster. The new car dubbed the Genesis PM580 will produce a massive 750bhp and 725ft/lbs of torque in a car that only weights 840kg.

Millen used a Hyundai Genesis coupe last June at the event and grab a class record in the 2-wheel drive time attack with an extremely fast time of 12:09.397. This year Millen hopes to use his custom built car to brake the 10min barrier and drive himself into the record books.

Nissan to Release Facelift GTR in Europe in 2011

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Shortly after announcing a new facelift model for the Japanese market Nissan and released information on a European GTR to be launched in 2011. They are calling the new GTR a facelift, but it would seem that most of the changes to the car are going to be under the skin.

There are going to be changes to the suspension components to improve ride comfort. A changes to the logic controlling torque distribution to help the car when maneuvering at low speeds to reduce rear-axle ‘binding’. The logic in the gearbox is going to be tweaked to give a later downshift from 6th to 5th when the car is in auto mode, but a more aggressive downshift profile for drivers changing from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd. The car is also to receive some more NACA cooling ducts in the carbon fibre underfloor diffuser for extra cooling to the exhaust and gearbox. There will also be changes to the braking bias, with the bias being moved slightly rearwards to give the GTR better braking stability.

The only real external changes to the new ‘facelift’ GTR will be a double coat for the front and rear bumpers to give a deeper colour finish. The interior will receive a new speedo and rev counter finish and a new sound system that features 40gb of memory.
