Car Of The Week

As well as posting industry news, new cars and cool videos, I have decided to include a weekly post of the nicest second hand car i have spotted on the second hand car market.

For the first installment I thought i would go with a VW, as i am a bit of an enthusiast and commonly fond myself on VW forums and on the bay looking for mk1, mk2 Golf for sale. Today i came across a stunning show car up for sale on eBay and just had to share (and promote) the car.

The car is being sold by Paul from DemonVW and is one of the most complete mk1 Golfs you will ever find. The car includes a completely custom leather interior in cream and brown, airride suspension and has been resprayed in Porsche brown with a smoothed engine bay sporting a fully polished 1.8 8v (GTI) engine. The car has many focal point, but the colour coded Steffan RS (14×8) wheels and early small chrome bumpers really set the car off perfectly.

With a price tag of £11,950 its not the cheapest of mk1′s on the market, but the amount of work and attention to detail that has been put into this car i am not surprised by its price at all.

Check out the eBay listing for more specs and pics.

First up, apologies for the mis-use of this comments section but i assume they will be moderated and therefore this will hopefully reach the right person.

Cutting to the chase, I work for a small Social Media agency (3 man to be precise) and we’re currently working for Vauxhall on the launch of the new Astra. We’ve built what we call a ‘Conversational Hub Site’ (a microsite in Laymans terms) called ‘Torque Astra’ and if I’m honest, we’re struggling a little. Tasked with generating traffic and creating an engaged & active community of car enthusiasts, we’re currently falling a little short.
However, I think (with only a whiff of bias) that we have some really good content on the site so am subsequently a bit miffed!

Sooo, I’ve been having a look round similar sites and forums etc on a mission to learn from the pros and get a feel for what other people are doing. In the process of carrying out this research, I came across your site and (I’m told flattery often works here) really enjoyed having a poke around. In particular, I love this post and it got me thinking if there were any Mk 1 Astras out there of anything like the same quality?

Anyway, I was hoping to pick your brains and (if you had 5 mins) get your opinion on what we were doing well/badly with our site. I’m sure you’re very busy and understand if you can’t help, but wonder if we might be able to offer you something in return…..for example, we can facilitate test drives, factory tours, interviews and Vauxhall related giveaways for your readers.

You can find the site here – http://www.torqueastra.com

Look forward to hearing from you soon

    Kind regards

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

thank you for your comments about motoring-news. There are a couple of elements on torqueastra.com that i think could be done slightly different to help the site gain more users. The first is the current layout of the homepage. At the moment you have a snippet of the 10 most recent articles on the homepage. At first glance this makes it look as if there is hardly any content to each one of the posts, which could cause some users to leave the site. I would suggest reducing the number of artciles displayed on the homepage to 5 and increase the amount of content visible from each post. Secondly i would suggest including more variation in the type of posts being written, as you suggested in your comment i think a number of posts on the Astra enthusiasts, covering the current scene and the top mk1 Astra, mk2 Astra etc. I would also suggest include more posts about the XVR model, as this will lead to more insteresting articles for the ‘auto-enthusiast’ market that you are trying to target with the site.

    Cheers
    Dave

I’m proud to say that that is my mk1 :) I didn’t sell it in the end, and have started working on it again. Not having a garage at my house is making things difficult, but that’s what the in-laws have a garage for :)
