The end of Top Gear?
Well, Sunday was the last episode of Top Gear for another series, which came around far to quickly as usual. But now i have been hearing rumors that the show will not be making a 12 series due to Jeremy Clarkson continued verbal attacks on a number of top MPs, including the PM himself.
I personally think this is a load of rubbish, as i find it very unlikely that the BBC would cancel one of its biggest and most popular shows. Though this wouldn’t be the first time that Jeremy Clarkson has been in trouble for things he has said on Top Gear, the presenter found himself under fire a couple years ago when he described a car as ‘gay’. Ofcom were said to have received five complaints from people who found the expression offensive to homosexual people. Then in 2008 over 500 people complained to the BBC about a joke Clarkson made on the BBC2 show when he said “Change gear, change gear, check mirror, murder a prostitute, change gear, change gear, murder. That’s a lot of effort in a day,” while in the middle of a lorry driving task.At one point i thought the BBC might fire Clarkson, making him have to use car hire to carry on reviewing cars… but that was not to be.
I have watched all of the latest series of Top Gear this year and to be completely honest i was not very impressed. Yes, i realise that it is more of an entertainment show now then a car review show (if i want that i will watch 5th Gear) but nothing on the show seems real anymore and the cars seem to have taken a back seat to the presenters. I was sat watching the last in the series on Sunday thinking maybe it wouldn’t be a back thing is Top Gear came to an end now. They have been very entertaining over the years, but the show is just not as good as it once was. And then the last section came on and wow. I have to say that the footage of the new Aston Martin V12 Vantage was stunning and coupled together with Clarkson one speaking 4 or 5 lines of dialog, it was perfect. If the V12 Vantage bit was anything to go by, i welcome a new series new year with open arms, but i fear it may have been a one off.
